Oh here is a fun one! We have made a number of knifes in countless styles, but the idea here is to wrap up how knifes are made, how they are handled, grind, shapes and sizes!
Handle Design and Sizing
Well there are a number of diffrent handle sizes shapes and styles, but for now we are gonna stick with the three major knife handle styles.
The first style is a full tang knife, now I use this term for a knife that has steel all the way though every part of the knife. basically the knife blade and steel goes all the way through the center of the blade with handle scales sandwiching the blade. This is common with a lot of knives we make here.
The next is a threaded tang knife. A threaded tang knife is a knife that has a long drawn out piece of steel that goes through the handle completely. This then has a thread that can be bolted to in order to hold the handle in place. This is common with a lot of buck knives or knives that have a guard on them that is not integral.
The last major type of knife handle style is hidden tang knives. These are usually used for kitchen knives, specialty carving knives or even file handles. These handles are usually press fit as well as held in place with a glue or epoxy. Typically knives with this handle style are not meant to be abused like camp knives. These knives handles are typically used in a lot of Japanese kitchen knives.
Tip, Blades, Shapes and Sizes
There are a number of blase shapes and styles to talk about. We will build a diagram below to display a number of blade styles and tips to choose from that we have made.
Handle Materials
We have a number of handle materials that we work with, including a number of woods, micarta, G10, and acrylics. We also do a lot of hand filing designs jimping and spacer materials to give your knife a unique style! Soon we will have a list of woods, with images, that we have worked with or can get a hold of to handle most knives. We also usually have a good amount of paper spacers, plastic spacers, and metal spacers to give a little more color to your handle material.
